PICUS OSKAR 191035000141584 male, 24.10.2022., in the shelter since 23.10.2025., came from owners and here is his story.. Oskar came to us following a report to the veterinary inspection, and euthanasia was being considered because he had allegedly bitten a woman. However, it was not actually a bite but rather a warning. The dog’s owners were a man without a leg and his son, who bought Oskar as a puppy 3.5 years ago for his child, who was 3 years old at the time. Later, the parents separated and the mother left, so the dog remained living in an apartment on the 4th floor without an elevator. The younger owner worked all day, while the older one could not take the dog outside because he uses a wheelchair. When Oskar was 2 years old, he jumped out of a window and survived only by sheer luck. However, his femur bone broke and he had to undergo surgery. We only found this out later. After the surgery, they never went for a follow-up check-up, and the pin that remained in the leg damaged the sciatic nerve. Oskar limps. We removed the pin, but the plate remained inside and does not need to be removed. No one took the dog for a walk in the morning—he was only taken out once in the evening for about 15 minutes to urinate and defecate. This means that a dog of the Akita type lived confined in the apartment for days, months, and years, waiting for those 15 minutes to go outside just to relieve himself. One time, while he was being taken outside—probably in a hurry to urinate—a neighbor approached them and tried to pet him. The dog grabbed her jacket, most likely because he was frustrated and urgently needed to go outside to relieve himself. At that point, the veterinary inspection ordered that the dog had to be removed from that apartment, and he came to us because the other option was euthanasia. After some initial distrust, Oskar became good with us, and once he gets to know a person he is friendly. He is very clean and well-behaved indoors, enjoys going for walks, but he needs time to adapt. He needs people with experince with akitas. Cca 60cm.
