DEA MAUSI, female, 191100002279881, 01.03.2021., 38 cm in the shelter since 06/2024. Mausi was rescued from a shelter in southern Croatia at the request of a woman who has been a long-time supporter of our shelter. She was on the brink of death, completely malnourished. As soon as she arrived, we provided her with veterinary care. Her test results were quite poor — her liver and kidneys were in bad condition. Based on her symptoms, we suspected leishmaniasis, as she came from an area where it is common. Our suspicions were confirmed, and Mausi began allopurinol therapy. She recovered very quickly, and now she is a beautiful little dog with a shiny coat. Her results have improved, and she no longer has any symptoms. She is in remission. Since there are no mosquitoes that transmit leishmaniasis in our area, she is as safe as the other dogs around her, but we still treat and protect her against mosquitoes just in case. Mausi is a lovely little dachshund-type dog, very sweet and obedient. She gets along well with other dogs, loves walks, running in the fenced forest, and exploring. She always alerts when someone comes but listens when told not to bark. She is clean and tidy in the house. She is currently in temporary foster care with Aleksandra.
