Concerning the fact that every animal has rights and that there are people who violate that rights ruthlessly we felt the need to associate and in that way try to cope with problems animals have. Association for animal protection "Friends" was founded in March 2001. with the purpose of protection, bestowing and finding home for abandoned animals in the whole of Međimurje county. Association “Friends” is independent, non-governmental and non-profit organization. Presently in Međimurje there are 112 “friends” of various ages. Our wish is to encourage people to think about their attitude toward animals and to join the fulfillment of our goals! Shelter under the custody of association comprises of 9 separate courtyards where various dog breeds (some 180 adults and 40 puppies) are settled and about 20 cats in detached cat facility. Inside courtyards, there are boxes and kennels that provide shelter from rain and cold. There is also a special courtyard for dogs in boxes to run and play, which they enjoy very much. The president Ljiljana Zebić Drvar runs association with selfless help of her husband Antun Branko and other members and volunteers. With great love and devotion, they help to ensure that animals are surrounded with love and care.
Our mission:
With its activity Association "FRIENDS" is trying to put an end to the current citizen’s awareness concerning animal rights, to raise animal protection and rights and provide as many abandoned animals as possible. One of the main goals of our organization is education on the rights of animals. A large number of abandoned animals are an indicator of a lack of moral maturity of individual citizens. This problem cannot be a burden only to our association, it is a problem of society we live in and nobody should shut their eyes in front of it.
