Our Easter

We spent this year's Easter holidays in the real spirit of Easter – by working hard at the shelter.

Around thirty people gathered early in the morning. We rolled up our sleeves and got to work. We cleaned the old house and made room for a new kitchen and office. We cut some branches and cleaned the whole surrounding area to make a place where the dogs can run. We also set up enclosures for sick animals, did some groundwork for the future fence, installed a new kitchen and cleaned all our warehouses. The cat shelter has been completely renovated. We also took some time to cuddle and groom our dogs and cats and we took photos of thirty of them for our web site. In the end we ate some tasty vegan beans, barley and smoked tofu stew and a vegetarian pizza. We also witnessed the burning of a big stack made of branches and waste. While watching the fire at the end of the day, we were filled with a sense of gratitude for the gift of unity that we received.

In March, Mr. Tomislav Solak donated his service by making the ground plan of the shelter, which is a requirement for our registration as a shelter in accordance with the Rules of the Ministry of Agriculture. Members of the Tierwald Ungarn society helped us cover the veterinary costs of 23.000kn (approx. 3000 Euros) (of which just one of their members, Ms. Sane Brehm, donator of Prijatelji donated 1000 Euros). We also bought a new kitchen and a cauldron for quick preparation of food. Par-am company and Sc.D. Josip Šimičić from Zagreb donated an excellent professional program for keeping a registry of dogs and cats. We feel most pleased by the small donations and the growing number of volunteers who come to the shelter and help us take care of our proteges.

We are immensely grateful to everyone who supports us in these difficult times, and we always remember what Enes Kišević wrote: “Ours is that which we have given to others.”

And, in closing, the best news this spring is that since the beginning of the year we accepted 56 new proteges, and found new homes for 51.

To all of you we wish happy moments in the days to come and may we work on some new project in the future.

In the meantime, have a look at some of the photographs at the following link.
